✨Rhomboid release techniques ✨ We use our rhomboids (the muscles between the spine and the edge of the scapula) A LOT in surfing when paddling, popping up & duck diving. It’s no surprise a lot of us will be feeling sore in this upper back region after this week’s run of swell. Now the waves have dropped off, it’s time to give your body a bit of tlc… I like to start any stretch session with a sun salutation flow for 5 rounds to get the body moving, the breath flowing & wake those tense upper back & erector spinae muscles. It also helps to get a feel of where in the body needs most attention🤗 Cat-Cow✨my favourite for waking up the spine & feeling a stretch in the upper back. Feel free to add in your own little flow & follow whatever feels good for your body. Follow for 10 deep breaths. Thread The Needle✨Inhale as you lift your arm up & exhale as you thread your arms through. Repeat for 5 deep breaths on each side. Work into the rhomboids with a tennis ball/cricketball/lacrosse ball. This is my favourite way to release tight rhomboids on my own… ✨Place the ball between the scapula (shoulder blade) & spine. ✨Slowly Roll/Move the ball around until you find a sore/tender spot. ✨Bend your elbow & place on the ground so it’s level with your shoulder. ✨Lift your arm across to the opposite side without rotating upper body. We only want the arms to be moving. ✨Hold for 3 deep breaths or until discomfort subsides. Release, then find another good spot & repeat. ✨If lying down, I like to keep my knees bent so I avoid any curvature in the lower spine. Try keep your lower spine stuck to the floor. ✨Don’t forget to breathe✨

Glute self-massage Part 2 - some more techniques for targeting these powerhouse muscles. - If you normally have your glutes treated as part of your massage treatment you’ll know it can be excruciating but beneficial. Here are some more techniques to keep you going until you can book in with me again! - SELF-MASSAGE I would really recommend starting with a roller for this one, as it provides a more general release of the whole muscle, and is gentler to work with. If you have real glute issues, swap to a ball after using the roller - a ball means you can target specific areas more effectively with deeper pressure, but it also makes you want to scream for mercy. This will be lessened by using a roller to warm up. - Firstly just roll over the whole glute. The slower the better here (I went a little faster so the video wasn’t too long!). - Then keep the roller still on one area, and slowly crunch your knee up to your chest, pause, then lower. Reposition the roller and keep repeating. Yes, there’s a strong Jane Fonda vibe here but this is an excellent active way of releasing the glute. - By crossing the leg over the other knee, you put the glute on a slight stretch and can therefore work into it a bit deeper and with better results. Static Stretching: is holding a stretch without movement, usually only at the end-range of a muscle. Hold for 30 secs⠀ ⠀ 2. Dynamic stretching: is a strategy used to improve mobility while moving through a range-of-motion, often in a manner that looks like the activity or sport that is going to be performed. ⠀ ⠀ This particular Dymanic stretching can be particularly good if you are having back pain, sciatica or piriformis syndrome. This short flow will also help you stretch and warm up at the same time before exercise. ⠀ ⠀ 3. Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation .(PNF) stretching: is a technique to improve muscle elasticity and range-of-motion.⠀ The contract and relax method (CR) includes lengthening the targeted muscle and holding it in that position while the targeted muscle is contracted isometrically for about 10 secs then a relaxation passive stretch of 10 secs. With a week to go for my final exam to become an osteopath I just want to take a moment to appreciate how amazing the human body it!!. With 11 major organ systems, 206 bones, 360 joints, 850 muscles and 7 TRILLION NERVES controlling it all. It's amazing!!! The body has the amazing ability to repair and defend itself. It is a unit and everything is interconnected which makes it so complex!! The knowledge I know now compared to 5 years ago even with 12 years experience as a sports massage therapist is incredible. And there is still so much I have to learn, the body is that complex 💪amazing but omg it's not just muscle and bone, the functions of the body and what it can do is incredible.

Under reporting food intake.⁣ ⁣ Tracking food via My Fitness Pal is something I often ask my clients to do when dieting. ⁣ ⁣ People will often claim to be eating in a calorie deficit and that they're still not losing weight. ⁣ ⁣ But the fact is, if you aren't losing weight you're not in a calorie deficit.⁣ ⁣ So why does this happen?⁣ ⁣ There's a tonne of reasons but one of the main ones is under reporting food intake. ⁣ ⁣ How many times do you eat a slice of cheese when you make your kids a sandwich or finish what they leave at dinner time? Even licking a spoon that you've used in peanut butter?⁣ ⁣ All these extra licks, bites and snacks can add up to hundreds of calories. ⁣ ⁣ Apparently, most people eat as much as 35%-50% more calories than they think.⁣ ⁣ So if you're tracking your food, do it properly. Weigh stuff, have your scales to hand and track everything... Even alcohol, it all adds up.

With all the commercial gyms closed at the moment, it's surprising what little equipment you need to train at home. Small water bottles or cans of food are great substitutes for dumbbells, a skipping rope or running for your cardio workout whilst a tennis ball will help to ease out the tight spots in muscles and the bottom of your feet. リクエスト頂きましたので、 首肩こり改善の肩甲骨エクササイズを3パターン紹介いたします。 ❶肩甲骨の外転・内転 ①前にならえをした状態から背中を丸めていき、同時に両肩甲骨を外側に開き骨盤を後ろに倒す (エンドポイントで2秒停止) ②そのポジションから背中を反らしていき、同時に両肩甲骨で背骨を挟むイメージで骨盤を前に傾けます (エンドポイントで2秒停止) 以降①→②を10回ほど繰り返します。 ❷肩甲骨の挙上・下制 ①ニュートラルポジションから肩をすくめるようにして肩甲骨を上げる。(エンドポイントで2秒停止) ②そのポジションからニュートラルポジションよりさらに肩甲骨を下げます。(エンドポイントで2秒停止) 以降①→②を10回ほど繰り返します。 ❸肩甲骨の上方回旋・下方回旋 ①フェイスタオルを頭越しに両手で持ち、まっすぐと両腕を高く上げます。(エンドポイントで2秒停止) ②そのポジションから頭の後ろを通し、タオルをできるだけ低い位置まで下げていきます。(エンドポイントで2秒停止) 以降①→②を10回ほど繰り返します。 と、この3エクササイズで 肩甲骨の外転・内転、挙上・下制、上方回旋・下方回旋と6つの動きのが入っています。 いずれのエクササイズでもポイントは力むのではなく、『脱力して最大可動域を出していく』ことにあります🤓 アスリートのウォーミングアップにも、デスクワーク中心のオフィスワーカーにも、家事育児に終われるママさんにも共通で効果的なのでオススメエクササイズです😊是非やってみてください👍 Athliv. sportsmassage tokyo ginza is forever partner of your life. Strengthening the CALVES 🥵 • Here’s a variety of calf exercises to really strengthen those gastroc and soleus muscles in the calf and to keep your workouts interesting. • This is going to help with your walking, running, jumping ... anything which involves using the legs really! One of the common injuries I see are ankle sprains/ calf strains, so strengthening these muscles in the calf are going to help prevent these injuries and make you feel more stable on your feet! • Do each each exercise for 1 minute and repeat 4 times to really feel the burn 🔥 If you’re finding these exercises too difficult, decrease the time you’re exercising for or you can sit on a chair and do your calf raises from here. However if you’re finding these easy, add weights, increase reps or add a resistance band to those squat exercises 💪🏼 • Let me know which exercise is your favourite!
