Anxiety sucks the energy and life out of you .It is a combo of thoughts, feelings & behavior combined with nervous system .Panic attack make you believe that you are dying when in reality you are physically safe . MHI's sometimes are physical in the form of Shivering ,Stomach upset ,Headaches ,Palpitations ,Cramps ,Excessive sweating & sometimes it's also a feeling ,like you have no control over your life and there is a knot in your stomach & heavy feeling every time you gulp down the air & you feel like your world is crashing down & you have to sit there , act like everything is fine . I do know that it can be scary to open up ,specially if you are suffering from a long time & just got out of the denial phase & finally accepted that you are suffering from MHI . When someone opens up to you , that doesn't mean they need a solution . It means that they need someone to listen. Believe in them .Do not treat them differently .Ask how you can help . Assure them that their well being is important and it does matter to you . Do not make them a gossip topic because what they share with you is their private medical information because they trust you ,so don't break their trust make it even tough for them . Show them your empathy , not sympathy . People with MHI's create imaginary walls between themselves and you to hide their depressing ,anxious ,saddened ,destructive ,insecure self .If you really wanna help them, you need to break apart these walls with love ,time ,patience & trust to reach their true vulnerable self . Remember people with mental health issues are not attention seekers . People with anxiety don't have a train of thoughts . They have 20 trains in 5 tracks that narrowly avoid each other when paths cross and all the conductors are screaming .
