OILY SKIN What is Oily Skin? Oily skin occurs when the sebaceous glands in the facial skin make too much sebum. Sebum is a waxy, oily substance that protects and hydrates the skin which is necessary for keeping the skin healthy😌🦚 Sebum not only lubricates your skin, but it also removes dead skin cells and other irritants from your pores😇 However, too much sebum can lead to very oily skin, clogged pores, and potentially acne Oily skin frequently affects the face. How I get through those anxious evenings✨ If I’ve had an anxious day or evening my ‘go to’ pick me up is a shower, fresh pyjamas, a nice body butter and face moisturiser then I make a hot chocolate with marshmallows, message my friends and watch a film with my boyfriend. I always make sure I have a cuddle with Stitch too. I’ll get an early night, fill out my journals in bed and do a sudoku, I really try to make my sudoku the last thing I do at night and not go back on my phone before going to sleep. I find these things help to relax me completely or keep my anxiety at a manageable level. What has lockdown done to your mental and physical well-being? A lot has changed and is still changing, the things we used to do and took for granted may not be how you remembered them. That’s where your mindset comes in to play, if you don’t learn to adapt and overcome you’ll be waiting for things to “go back to normal” to resume. Yesterday whilst out getting some fresh air a guy said hello and engaged in conversation. It turns out he was a Pastor and he started talking about mental health. We got on the topic of going “back to normal” and both agreed that things don’t go back. The world does not spin backwards or wait for anything to go back, it’s too ruthless on its path moving forward a day at a time. So why do we think we can? We are human beings on this earth and that’s what we have to be. Being. The definition of being is existing and one thing Coronavirus is making me realise that we are being and being present. We can’t live in the past or future, sure it’s there to remind us and we can look forward to things to come but each breath you take is what you have and are right now. Having a growth mindset will help you to progress, overcome and adapt with this new world we are in. It will help with your mental health and physically doing things different will all play a part in your general well-being. It’s a choice though, you can wait for something to never come or go and make every moment count. Find time in the day to exercise or do something for you. Our mental health is being tested even more so as we are living life without as much freedom. Thoughts of the past are haunting us, fear of the unknown is creating anxiety, past traumas not dealt with are coming unstitched, the pots are bubbling and the lids are being flipped. Reach out, find new ways to look after you, talk to someone, go for a walk, make a cake, read, get outside, meditate, listen to music, dance! Look out for those around you but most importantly look out for yourself! I'm trying to not have this mind set of "deny deny deny". I fancied a fry up, normally I would order in a fry up orrr not eat anything. There's was no in between with me. So I figured if I want one that much, I'll make it myself. I tried to make good choices, I had small potion of beans, Heck sausages, bacon with out the fat and brown bread. And I fit it on a small plate. Normally this would be ordered in, 3 sausages, extra full fat bacon, x2 white bread, half a tin if beans, plus hash browns and maybe chips... Someone on a diet might not see this as good and actually I still felt bad for eating it so much so that I couldn't eat it all, I left a sausage and a bit of bacon (the best bits!) I actually feel full and a bit sick. But I tried to listen to my body, I turned all electric items off, ate slowly... And I was stuffed.. a feeling i associate with guilt. BUT I didnt blindly eat, or eat really fast. I'm trying. I'm at the very early stages of trying to work out my relationship with food. And making small changes and seeing how I feel .. feels like a good start. I dont want to give out incorrect information, if you feel this is relatable, have a read about Binge Eating Disorder. I’ve taught in 2 all girls schools and have been committed to girls education all of my teaching life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m currently reading a book, “Enough as she is” by Rachel Simmons who is a researcher and educator of girls. Rachel’s research reveals that while girls are now outpacing boys in academic results and appear to be very successful internally, many of them are anxious and overwhelmed, feeling that no matter how hard they try they are never enough. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ She says that teaching girls to speak up and take charge is only part of helping them to thrive. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “A life well lived isn’t just about doing and accomplishing more, nor is it about depending on my on yourself. We need to make the same kind of investment in teaching girls the skills of self-compassion and mindfulness, so they can tame the tendency to ruminate and catastrophise and have a healthy mindset to cope with failure. We need to help them talk back to a toxic culture and claim success as more than a sum of their resumes and filtered Instagram feeds. We need to help girls not just lean in, but lean inside.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I love working with girls at school however I see the power in working with older women- it is so important for these girls to have role models of women who can demonstrate self compassion and mindfulness.

Since I was a child I have always been active and during my recovery I found it really helpful to find ways I could stay active without having to do designated ‘exercise’. For example I would go shopping with friends, a bike ride with the family, play a sport or even go to a trampoline park etc etc. Basically fun activities which allowed to be my natural energetic self without relating it to ‘calories burned’ or changing my body. But during lockdown this has been hard to say the least and I’ve found my relationship with exercise becoming blurred again. So for anyone who needs it here are some signs that you don’t have a good relationship with exercise: * You wouldn’t feel comfortable telling someone how much you’re exercising or you do exercise in secret. * You couldn’t exercise if you didn’t have your phone or watch to track steps/calories burnt. * You only follow YouTube workouts which are titled things like “burn belly fat” “slimmer thighs” “get rid of love handles” etc * You feel guilty if you don’t exercise * You purposely eat more or less on days you do or don’t exercise instead of listening to your hunger cues * You only “do abs” * You compare your exercise levels to other people’s * You can’t go a day without feeling guilty for not exercising * You don’t enjoy it / force yourself to do it Just take a moment to take step back and think about how you’re doing mentally before you exercise. Check in with yourself, listen to your body and don’t let your eating disorder control your decisions. You are so much more than your body 🍑

🌞 Good morning everyone! I made a poll on my story yesterday and most of you voted yes to see my meals so here it is. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day as it gets your entire body going and gives you enough energy to complete aaaaall the tasks you could do. Don’t skip it, no matter what you had the day before, you need to stop punishing your body for its basic needs. Your body deserves food, you deserve food, whether you’re trying to lose weight or you binged the night before, you still deserve to have enough fuel to properly function. 🌻 So I woke up today at 7 am, exercised, went out to buy some things and came back home for breakfast. The entire thing was absolutely delicious. Man do I love breakfast!
