The Bibliotheca Alexandrina. A modern structure rebuilt on the site where the Great Library of Alexandria, one of the largest and most significant libraries of the ancient world, once stood tall. Where scriptures of invaluable historical importance were burnt along with its final vandalisation and demolision in 391AD. Can't help but wonder what secrets were turned to ashes in the pursuit of strategical goals, which don't even matter today - contrary to the importance of those resulting scattered ashes. A close reminder that we, as human kind, never shy far from repeating history (and phoenix is just a mythical creature). . .. ... .... ... .. . #alexandria #egypt #thegreatlibraryofalexandria #libraryofalexandria #history #newlibraryofalexandria #ancient #history #ancientegypt #amazingegypt #egyptshots #discoveregypt #blackandwhitephotography #bnwphotography #bnw #architecture #architecturalphotography #architectural #conceptualphotograhy #traveltheworld #travelphotography #travelgram #travelling #wanderlust #yourshotphotographer #natgeotravel #middleeast #visitegypt #instatravel #traveling

➖➖➖ 🇬🇧 In the common imagination the death of Cleopatra also represents the sensual and erotic image that the queen left behind. In fact it is thought to have killed itself with the bite of a snake on the breast but in reality it died because of a poison that voluntarily taken for not "parading" in the triumph of Ottaviano in Rome. Before committing suicide, he asked his men to circulate the story of snakes (which would have bitten her on the arm, not on the breast) perfectly in line with his identity as Isis and of great "media" effect. In fact, Isis was a deity connected also to the poison able to kill and to heal with it, besides for centuries the Egyptian sovereigns had a connection with the snakes and in particular with the cobra. Ottaviano also contributed to the spread of this legend, according to Plutarco during the triumphal procession in Rome he had a picture or a statue of Cleopatra paraded with a snake on him. EYE OF HORUS, MENTOLOGICALLY SPEAKING According to mythology, Horus is the son of Isis (goddess of motherhood, fertility and magic) and of Osiris (god of death and the underworld). Legend has it that Osiris, benefactor of humanity, was killed and dismembered by Seth, his younger brother. Isis, thanks to her magical practices, managed to recover the pieces scattered all over Egypt and bring it back to life temporarily. Isis's idea was to conceive a son with Osiris who would become his avenger. From their union was born Horus, the legitimate successor of the throne of Egypt. The battle between the two gods lasted eight years. During a chase in the desert, Seth turns Horus off. Found by Hathor (goddess of joy and sexuality) is cured with gazelle milk. From that moment the left eye, the lunar one, becomes a famous symbol rich in meaning, it becomes the eye of Horus! #egyptiangods #horus #egypt #horuseye #ancientegypt

12 DAYS OF ORIGINS End of April 2019. I've been so excited to get to this point in this project. It was April 27th when I turned on my newly-built PC and an entire new world opened up to me. It felt like playing Origins for the first time all over again and I could not wait to experience and capture everything again. This wasn't the first photo I took (the first was the typical bloody Bayek in the old temple outside Siwa where you start - you can see that one on the map; it always shows up), but it was one of my first favorites. Be prepared for a lot of spam until the end of this project because there are so many photos I want to reshare! #12DaysOfOrigins#2YearsOfOrigins #Egypt #AncientEgypt #Pyramids #Giza #Bayek #BayekOfSiwa #Medjay #MedjayBayek #AssassinsCreedOrigins #AssassinsCreed #TheCapturedCollective #GamerGram #VirtualPhotography

Day 6: Luxor [East Bank] Karnak + Luxor Temples This was an intense + beautiful experience. It has taking me days to process while assimilating to the magnificence of the mysteries available to all of us. Divine intervention once again shows me the flow of surrender + trust. On the plane ✈️ from Cairo to Luxor, I met some light workers that invited us to our next destination. Our car never showed to pick us up at the airport and therefore, we hopped on their bus and headed to Karnak temple. On the way there they spoke of magical testimonies, secret mystery teachings + access to sacred artifacts. Without accepting flow + being open...I would have missed on the experience + sharing it with loved ones. 🔮 Next steps have unfolded, which I am still resistant to. Knowing that they are already in place when I take the leap feels supportive in the web of destiny before me. 🔐 10 years ago, my awareness to the signs the universe places at my feet was my ultimate reality. Trusting them + adjusting my footing has been relatively easy. The abundance that I receive from these gifts is beyond anything I could have fathomed. Continuing to trust in those signs manifests in this realm with great precision. 🧚🏼‍♀️✨🧚🏼‍♀️✨🧚🏼‍♀️✨🧚🏼‍♀️✨🧚🏼‍♀️✨ Day 6 in Luxor was beyond my wildest expectations on my spiritual journey. So many validations, activations + miracles wrapped up in an embrace. I cannot find the words to express my experience, nor (as I am reminded) this the platform to share such sacredness. 🧿🧿🧿🧿🧿🧿🧿🧿🧿🕳🕳🕳 I urge you to continue connecting with who you are, who you were + what you need to heal the suffering within. There is sweet nectar on the other side 🍯 for your soul. Forget the naysayers + judgement of Self. Look deep within. Do the work. Believe in you. Spread your blessings + continue to love one another. 🦋 #luxortemple #karnaktemple #sekhmet #serapisbey #isispriestess #mysteryteachings #ancientegypt #knowledge #ankh #egypt #luxoregypt #eyeofhorus #queennefertiti #ramesses #akhenaten #energyrich #livewithintention #purposedrivenlife #abundancemindset #manifestationbabe #spiritualhealer #divinefemininerising #brujasofinstagram #blessedlife #heartcentered 📿

Melted. The steps leading up to the Temple of Hathor at Dendera complex. See anything strange? Over 2300 years, many feet stepped over these stones and left an impression of a melted look. It can be quite difficult to accept that this is simply a phenomenon caused by the natural erosion of feet over thousands of years. But it is. More outlandish theories as to why these steps appear to be melted include the assumption that a nuclear war once took place during antiquity. There is of course no evidence to back up this hypothesis and is merely a pseudoscientific stab in the dark. There is some speculation that Hathor Temple is actually built over an even more ancient site which gives credence as to why the stairs appear so much older than the walls. What do you think? Dear diary, whelp I’ve gone off into the rabbit hole again. I picked up this book because I knew that I wanted to write something heavily based on Egyptian mythology for my next novel. Well HOLY CRAP this book is stuffed with inspiration. I am on page 38 of 214 and I already have the book mapped out in my brain. AND I AM OBSESSED with this new premise 😭 So if you’re here for a magical tale set in the Black Land of Ancient Egypt... if you want to hear about a high priestess who carves into tombs the safest paths souls can take into the underworld... and if you want to know if she follows her lover down this path, then raise your hand 🙋🏻‍♀️ You see diary, it’s kind of like a Eurydice/Orpheus thing, but it’s all ancient Egyptian. And there’s a lot more gods. And also more organs 😏 I’ll just be over here planning away, trying to make it as creepy and dark but also tragic lovey as I can. xx Ali 🖤 . . . #bookish #instabooks #igreads #bookcommunity #booklovers #booknerdigans #ancientegyptian #bookaholics #orpheusandeurydice #amwritinghorror #bookish #instagrambooks #ancientegypt #allthingshorror #amreading #reading #horrorlover #ilovebooks #amwriting #amwritingfantasy #amwritingromance #amplotting #amplottingnotpantsing

The Luxor statue cache is a grouping of ancient Egyptian statues unearthed in Luxor Temple in 1989. These sculptures were buried during the conversion of the temple into a military camp during Roman times. Originally five statues were found at a three foot depth below a covering layer of small stones; eventually 26 statues were uncovered with some being damaged prior to burial. Here you can see King Horemheb kneeling before Atum. Carved in Diorite, Atum is 1,71 m high and Horemheb is 0,83 m. The statues of Horemheb and Atum fit into recesses in the base (maybe to make moving the tableau easier). Horemheb is holding two spherical vessels and is wearing the Nemes headdress, uraeus, royal beard, shendyt-kilt and sandals. The inscriptions say King Lord of the two lands (Djeser-Khepru-Re Setep-en-Re Heka-Maat). Atum is sitting on a throne wearing the double crown, long wig and a curved beard. His right hand is holding an Ankh. Each side of the throne is decorated with two Nile God which represent the unification of upper and lower Egypt, the lily on the right and the papyrus on the left. . #luxor #egypt #ancientegypt #ancientegyptian #temple #ancienttemple #architecture #ancientart #ancient #hieroglyphs #history #ancienthistory #misr #pharaonic #religion #ancientreligion #egyptology #roman #art #ancientart #egyptianart #egyptianreligion #travel #egyptiangods #discoverluxor #kemet #discoveregypt #travelphotography #trip #amon

You guys, we found some really old pictures of Nuggett. 😄 👑 🐱🏺 ✨ #bastet #egypt #cats #ancientegypt #ouradmin #boss #queen #daughter #family #lilnugget #Ra #protection • Goddess of cats, love, the home, healing, joy, motherhood, pleasure, ointments, childbirth, protection, the hearth, women, secrets, fertility, dance, festivals, song, the dawn, fire, pregnancy, sex, family, warfare... She protected the home from evil spirits and disease, especially diseases associated with women and children. As with many Egyptian deities, she also played a role in the afterlife as a guide and helper to the dead; although, this was not one of her primary duties. She was the daughter of the sun god Ra and along with other deities such as Hathor, Sekhmet, and Isis, Bastet is associated with the concept of the Eye of Ra (the all-seeing eye)... She has been depicted as fighting the evil snake named Apep, an enemy of Ra. In addition to her solar connections, sometimes she was called "eye of the moon.” One recent explanation describes Bastet as meaning, "She of the ointment jar.” This ties in with the observation that her name was written with the hieroglyph for ointment jar and that she was associated with protective ointments. Bastet was also depicted as the goddess of protection against contagious diseases and evil spirits. Bastet, however, was also sometimes linked with the god of perfume and sweet smells, Nefertum, who was thought to be her son and this further links the meaning of her name to the ointment jar. The most obvious understanding would be that, originally, the name meant something like She of the Ointment Jar (Ubaste) and the Greeks changed the meaning to Soul of Isis as they associated her with the most popular goddess in Egypt. Even so, scholars have come to no agreement on the meaning of her name. From the Pyramid Texts onward, Bastet has a double aspect of nurturing mother and terrifying avenger... Moral of the story? Don’t. mess. with. cats. Ya heard?? 😄😄😄🙌👑

King Tutankhamun's Chariot: Ferrari of Ancient Egypt © SUREJarts The #Egyptians invented the yoke saddle for their chariot horses around 1500 BC. Chariots were effective for their high speed, mobility and strength which could not be matched by infantry at the time. Chariots would eventually form an elite force in the ancient Egyptian military. In field action, chariots usually delivered the first strike and were closely followed by infantry advancing to exploit the resulting breakthrough, somewhat similar to how infantry might operate behind a group of armed vehicles in modern warfare. These tactics would work best against lines of less-disciplined light infantry militia. Chariots, much faster than foot-soldiers, pursued and dispersed broken enemies to seal the victory. Egyptian light chariots contained one driver and one warrior; both might be armed with bow and spear. In ancient Egypt, members of the #chariot corps formed their own aristocratic class known as the maryannu (young heroes). The heroic symbolism can be seen in this painting in which the King is shown riding with the elites, shooting arrows at the enemies. As chariots become increasingly integrated into military training especially during the regime of Amenhotep II, the chariot warrior was identified as seneny and was paired with the called keijen or kedjen, who also act as his defender. The seneny was trained to use the bow with accuracy even when the horse is at full gallop, a feat that #Amenhotep II could reportedly do. #paintingoftheday #paintingminiatures #ancientegyptiancivilization #ancientart #ancientegypt #painting🎨 #artistoninstagram #artwork #keralagodsowncountry #moodygramkerala #keralagram #kerala🌴 #arist #egyptianmythology #egypt🇪🇬 #tutankhamun #ancientcivilization #Artworkforpeace #historypainting
